Messrs. J. S. Westberry & Bro.
These gentlemen are among the early settlers of Sylvester, and yet when I say this I do not mean to create the impression that they are old men-for this is not the case. Sylvester is built up of young men, and the Messrs. Westberry are among the most active in the entire community. They are among the largest turpentine distillers in the county, and do a very large business in this industry. Coming to Worth County from Wayne, seventeen years ago, they have been residents of the locality around Sylvester since. Mr. J. S. Westberry, of the firm, was a wage-earner under Mr. W. H. McPhaul when he first located in this county, and later married the sister of that prosperous and public-spirited developer. He built the first storeroom in the town, which is shown on this page, together with some of the buildings that have been erected during the last three years, the date of the young town’s material birth. Today, he and his brother own a two story brick in which they carry a large stock of general goods and another splendidly built brick store on the corner of Main Street, which they rent. They do a splendid general business, in addition to their large turpentine trade, extending over a territory of fifteen miles,, and besides a number of residences and building lots in the town, they own about 15,000 acres of land. This will show that, having made a comfortable fortune in Worth County, they are still confident of her resources.
