Charles Frederick Westberry

CHARLES FREDERICK WESTBERRY (WILLIE6, MAGGIE5 BUNKLEY, MIRIAM ELLEN4 WESTBERRY, RABON KNIGHTEN3, RABUN2, MOSES1) was born December 14, 1934. He married BETTY JEAN HIRES March 19, 1955, daughter of LEON HIRES and MAGGIE WILLIAMS. She was born October 23, 1934.

Pfc Charles W. Westberry serving in the Armed Forces in Goppingen, Germany, with the 144th Signal Battalion of Headquarters and Headquarters Company. Pfc. Westberry is in the 4th Armed Division and is Team Chief of the Wiremans Section and a Senior Wireman. Pfc. Westberry leaves behind his wife, Betty Jean Hires Westberry, who at the present is making her home at 628 S. 6th Street, Jesup, with her sister, Mrs. Alvin Carter. Mrs. Westberry is employed with Condaire, Inc., 297 Ty Ty Street, Jesup. Pfc. Westberry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Westberry of Route 1, Screven. Pfc. Westberry will be remembered by his friends of Odum and Jesup as “Fred.” He will remain in Germany until May of 1959, at which time he will return to the states.

Linda Kaye Westberry, 4, died Wednesday in the Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta after a long illness. She had been dedicated in the Jesup Church of God. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Jesup Church of God with the Rev. Alvin Graham and the Rev. Dewey F. Miller officiating. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Westberry of Jesup; two sisters, Glenda Faye Westberry and Charlotte Renee Westberry, both of Jesup; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hires of Lyons; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Westberry of Jesup; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Westberry of Odum, and Mrs. Bertie Johnson of Jesup. Pallbearers were Herschel Thornton, Willis Herrin, Billy Poppell and Jimmy Highsmith. Burial was in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Ne-Smith-Harrison Funeral Home.
