Man Calls Warning To Daughter, Kills Self in Phone Booth – A 60-year old man who called his daughter yesterday afternoon from a phone booth and warned her that she’d “better get out here with the law right away, apparently shot himself with a .22 caliber rifle after hanging up the receiver. He died some two hours later at the Duval Medical Center, according to Deputy Sheriff C. A. Alexander. The shooting was reported by W. S. Forbis, owner of a distributing firm in the 1700 block of Lem Turner Road, who told Alexander that he saw Rannel L. Westberry of the 1700 block of Silver Street go into the booth. Forbis said he was going back into the building when a passing motorist slowed down and called, A man just shot himself in that booth!, and drove on. Westberry’s daughter, Mrs. Verna McGuire of the 1400 block of Oakhurst Street said she knew of no reason why her father would kill himself. Road Patrolman L. W. Ellis, who answered Forbis’ call, administered first aid to Westberry but said he never regained consciousness.
