John Josiah Westberry was born in 1849 in Wayne County, Georgia, and was the son of Noah Westberry, (b. 1804) and his wife Nancy Westberry. He was married in Wayne County on October 23, 1881, to Mary Ann Lucretia “Annie” McKoy, the only child of Eddie McKoy and his wife, Mary Esther Powell, who went by the name of Hayes, being reared by her step-father, Thomas Hayes. Annie was born in Jacksonville, Telfair County, Georgia in 1861. John Josiah and Annie farmed and lived their entire married life in Wayne County, Georgia.
John Josiah Westberry died on June 30, 1932 from injuries suffered when he fell from a horse at the age of 83, sustaining a broken leg and broken left thigh. After the death of her husband, Annie made her home with her daughter, Estelle Elizabeth Wetherington. Some years after the death of Estelle’s husband, Estelle sold her farm in Wayne County and moved to Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, taking with her the children of her brother, Stafford, whom she had reared, and her mother, Annie. Annie (McKoy) Westberry died in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 87 and is buried beside her husband in the Westberry Family Cemetery near Jesup, in Wayne County.

John Westberry; Late Wayne Citizen Passes – John Westberry, life-long Wayne County citizen died at his home June 30, following a long illness. Old age mostly being the cause of his death. Mr. Westberry had lived to the ripe old age of 83 and was a life-long Wayne County citizen having been born and reared in Wayne County. His wife, Mrs. Annie Westberry, preceded him in death a few years ago, and since her death he had made his home with his children. Funeral services were held from the residence near Madray Springs, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. C. F. Burke, pastor of the Ritch Baptist Church in charge of the ceremonies. Interment followed in the Westberry Cemetery. The deceased is survived by the following children, four daughters, Mrs. L. M. Weterington, Mrs. Vallie Griffin, Mrs. Nora Herrin and Mrs. Laura Bell Thompson, thirty-one grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. Chenoweth Funeral Home of Jesup were the undertakers in charge.

Final Rites Held For Mrs. Westberry. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. for Mrs. Mary Ann Westberry, 87, who died last Thursday night in Jacksonville, Fla. after an extended illness. Services were held at Piney Grove Church of God with Rev. A. J. Porter officiating. Burial was in the Westberry Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Surviving Mrs. Westberry are four daughters, Mrs. Vallie Griffis, Mrs. Estelle Wetherington, Mrs. Gladys Hannah, all of Jacksonville and Mrs. Nora Herrin of Brunswick; also four sons, L. W. and C. L. Westberry of Jacksonville, G. F. Westberry of Seedland, Texas, and O. O. Westberry of Valdosta; thirty-five grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
