Taken from ” Glamis 1967 ”

I was born at our farm home one – quarter mile west of what is now Glamis on March 3, 1919. I don’t remember the store or elevator being built but I can remember the first train that came through on the railroad. It must have scared me because I never like to stand on the station platform and watch the train come in.
I got my schooling at Glamis and worked at housework for our neighbors and at home until I was married.
I first met my future husband, Roy Westbury, when he came to work for William Leith. Roy was born at Jackson Minn., on May 19, 1914, and came to Canada in 1916 with his parents, Lena and Herbert Westbury, and three older brothers. They settled at Beverly, eight miles west of Swift Current. Roy came to Glamis in 1932, returning again in 1936. Then in 1938, he stayed until he joined the Army Signal Corps. in June of 1942. He was sent overseas in December and joined the First Canadian Division for the invasion of Sicily in June 1943.
Roy went through the Italian campaign, spending two years in Italy, and he learned to speak Italian. In the spring of 1945, he went by boat from Leghorn, Italy, to Marseilles, France, then up through France , Holland, Belgium and Germany and back to England. He returned to Canada in September 1945.
Roy received his discharge on Oct. 19, 1945, and we were married on Nov. 16 1945. We lived at Glamis until we moved to the Padgate district in the spring of 1949. We farmed the N.W. of 12 – 28 -13 – W3 and rented the S. W. of 24 – 28 – 13 – W3 for a few years. In 1961 we sold our farm and moved to Zealandia.
We have a family of five. Ernest Leroy was born Aug. 22, 1946: Linda Rose , born Aug. 2, 1948: Richard Arnold, born March 15, !952; Elaine Mae, born Jan. 26, 1956; John Alvin, born Nov. 19, 1957. We lost a set of identical twin boys born June 24, 1949.[ Lorne Edger and Lloyd Allen ]
Ernie worked on the Deifenbaker Damm for three summers and now works for the C. N. Railway. Linda graduated this year but returned to school to complete her grade twelve. Richard is in high school now and Elaine and Johnny go to school in Zealandia.
I worked for a year as a waitress in the Esso cafe in Zealandia and then went to work at the Zealandia telephone office as an operator. Roy still works at farming on a farm north of Zealandia.

Children of ROY WESTBURY and LILA CURRIE are:
