John Raines Stone was born on July 4, 1837, in Clinch County, Georgia, the son of George Wesley Riley Stone and his wife, Nancy Howell.
John R. served in the Civil War as a private in Company K. 26th Georgia Regiment, Volunteers Infantry, Waynesville, Georgia.
John R. was married twice. His first wife was Mary Ann Harris, the daughter of George and Julia Ann (Westberry) Harris.
Mary Ann (Harris) Stone died in childbirth in 1874 in May Day, Georgia. She is buried in the Wayfare Church Cemetery in Echols County, Georgia.
John Raines Stone then married Dicy Ruth Woodard, in Berrien County in 1874. Dicy was born in 1842, the daughter ofWiley W. Woodard and his wife, Dicy Swearington.
John Raines Stone died on March 19, 1916 in Berrien County, Georgia. His wife, Dicy Ruth (Woodard) Stone, died in 1913. They are buried in the Flat Creek Church Cemetery in Berrien County.
