O. M. Westberry Saves Man’s Life
Mr. O. M. Westberry, a watchman on the A.C.L. crossing at Cherry Street was the hero in saving the life of Mr. Bob Slater. Last Thursday afternoon while Mr. Westberry was on duty guarding the crossing, a number of pedestrians were waiting for one of the trains to clear the crossing, among them was Mr. Slater. Mr. Slater being a very old man and his eyesight somewhat affected by his old age, did not notice the train begin backing up after it had cleared the sidewalk. He proceeded to cross the track and was only saved from an almost sudden death by the prompt action of Mr. Westberry, who jumped in front of the moving cars and rescued Mr. Slater just a moment before the cars had passed over the walkway. Mr. Westberry is to be commended for his heroic efforts in going to the assistance of Mr. Slater.
